SEO Internal Link Structure

Dan: So, I want really hi-tech this time, super high-tech. I want straight to Microsoft word. So I want even worst hi-tech. I want safe mode, low tech and even make it a pdf. That makes easy as possible. So now, if you are thinking this is a way low tech, I can even listen to this but I’m just sorry. But I’m hoping that you’re thinking that this guy would put a webinar with word I can definitely put on my own webinar. Because it’s not too hard. Alright, this is what we are doing today. We are week 3 or 4 session SEO program, the first week we did is basically the overview of SEO and we did a little bit about keyword research. Last week, we did keyword research and we talk about other places to find good keywords to find people what they are looking for, what they are buying. So this week, we gonna about SEO from the inside and about getting internal links. So we gonna try things that you can do inside your site before going out that will help your SEO. So first things first. I’ve said before, SEO is the art of proving relevancy. Google, Bing, Yahoo, Youtube, they are all companies and business to make money. The only way that they make money is they return results. And that result is relevant. If that’s not relevant, we go to other search engine like Bing. So we have to prove that our site, when I say site, I mean webpage, I mean blog post, I mean WordPress page, whatever it is that have unique URL.

We have to prove that the page is the most relevant site on the net. That’s our goal. So the first thing we gonna talk is the tying your shoes. No matter what super good running training you go to, it doesn’t matter who you get. They’re going to expect that you tie your shoes first. That’s just one of the basic. There’s no exception to this rule. None! Google, Yahoo, Youtube, Bing, there’s no exception! All the stuff is just gonna be like tie your shoes. You just need to do it. Here we are in the page now, this particular website is studied by SEO school’s over the world. This is like epitome of SEO. This site is unbelievable. So first thing is tying your shoes will just like to train your puppy, bar puppy, puppy training bar. These are the keywords that page is all about. This page has a title. Every page has a title. So you need a title. So we need to be focus on the keywords we are going about. We know what people care about just by looking for what people are searching for. So number 1 is page title. It can be different from your post title. And you have the opportunity to create page title. Number 2 is post title. This is a WordPress page title and this is for the reader. That is the number 1 and number 2 things. These are the first two places to know what your page is all about. So those 2, this is some degree is considered a little bit keyword stuffing. So why do they have slashes in the page title, they call it a bar. It’s not important in the search engine. So those are the first 2 things in tying your shoes.

The next thing that we have to do is to have contents that is relevant. Now the search engine is so good on what words that describes a page that you really need to write it very much about and kind of words to that. Make sure that these kinds of words show up on your page, these are related to your keywords. Now we have how to train a puppy, we have a keyword. One of a thing about using a strong tag or bold face tag is that the search engine if people reading your page and you bold everything, they gonna stop coming. So bold is one of the things that you cannot take advantage. So they give search engine a little bit clues. Notice here that he use internet structures, an anchor text. Now at the bottom of this page, think below that one thing that is related to puppy training. Now, go to those pages, there’s a good chance that they have a how to train a puppy links. So when the search engine is go down with the page, then it must clear to search engine that it’s all about how to train a puppy. It is very clear! We are trying to prove the relevant of this page. So we’re working on the page. Each page has its own website. If you don’t have links on the bottom, do you have links on the side bar going to other place on your site. Throughout the entire page, you be hard press to prove yourself that this page is about how to train a puppy. So are those links helping provide relevance to this page to the page that is on and if there are, can you make a dynamic side bars so that everything on the page screens what your topic is all about. So you could see here classic green bean casserole in the first part. We have another question?

Darren: For example, around a coupon, so then what else?

Dan: So, one of the question is have a money saving blogs and post a lot of coupon. We definitely didn’t post links to the expired ones but as far as coupon go, any of these are categories of this site. We definitely create to link back up to the category page. We will have a categories to different parts so that those kinds of things one on the side bar. So that would be our goal, to link as many category pages as we can so that we can have more audience to the coupons that is not expired but relevant to their mindset. I’m more interested here that loves. I don’t see Huggies coupons. You also have to use your human brain when it comes to the keywords. Target manufacturers. We get Huggies and pampers down here. It’s exactly the same.

Darren: Can we reinforces the structure that gets narrower, narrower and go up to categories.

Dan: I export in the excel and create the mini list and start comparing. I have to do few more searches. You can see how all of these words wipes Huggies manufacturers coupons. So this is kind of the stuff that we want on the page.Example for babies, I only use Huggies and I don’t use other brand. This is the reflection of not only people search but the common words that show up in pages that rank for pampers coupon. So all the page across the net so typically web publishers write about pampers and don’t use diapers, what is out there is what is relevant and what is not. We lose relevance in the search engine because we’re talking on what they don’t understand. Our goal is to be as similar exactly to what search engine is expect, what they scan everyday, what they believe that is relevant because they post only relevant, there are millions of millions scans on the web. So we take about tie your shoes in my super technical powerpoint presentation.

We will also talk about Bio-imaging. We gonna learn something, I’m hoping. We will about to learn lessons. Alright, our next thing is Bio-imaging, right? So anyway, this wonderful lady has a great site and this page is all about learning disability, so you look over here in the side bar you see that all learning disability are here in the site. The keywords are there, the text are there, and the links are there. Here are some more text and this text is nothing to do with learning disability twitter. She’s the best by the way. We don’t really need this text to change the density of what page is all about. So in order to prevent any chance that is not relevant, we type this in here and previous the page and use screen capture tool and take image. So, this picture doesn’t add to this SEO of this page, this is just an image. So, I talk about Bio-imaging, I’m saying that if on your site, there are sections that has an add that’s not only a text. You don’t really need that section to be the text. You need them to take away from Google, reading the actual page. When I say Bio-imaging, I’m saying take your bios and turn to images.

Darren: To recap that, you’re taking the text turning into image and what image is about.

Dan: Somebody asking me, How do they get if they have great post or guest authors. How do they get the bio on the bottom of this guest author’s page. I said, if you use hooks in Genesis and Thesis, assign the sign the hook to the tag or category. Then you can go, take the image or the bio, in the end of every post, add this bio image. When Google returns the result, so do you need a bio in the end of every post? The answer to that is definitely No, you don’t need a bio at the end of any post ever but you need the reader to do something. You need them to leave comment, to go to your ebook page, you need to do something and interact. So no page on your page needs to be a question. Given them to interact. On your page, make sure that you have a phone. Take them in your highest Adsense page in the highest category. So, make them go somewhere and do something. So, the idea of internal structure is make sure that if this was about and they have a section about anything that about that topic should be related to that topic. It is must have to be more relevant than everyone else. Next week, we gonna talk about giving links to come back to your side but now, you are 75% of the way there if you set up the structure of your site. Right? Everything in here is country porch. That’s why that’s the most relevant because they don’t give search engine to believe it that it’s about something else. So what happen when you cover different topics within this niche. This page is about Christmas, so it doesn’t matter if you write 10 different topics, you need to have 10 different styles, 10 sections of your site that is relevant. If you want search engine traffic, you need to show them that you’re relevant to stay inside the niche. Stop thinking your whole site and think about your individual post. Anything that has a unique URL that you should think about. I don’t understand the widget post come to be. I’m a blogger and that’s great. Are you really helping them, are you helping them smarter and give them interest in reading? You really need to focus on something.

Darren: That maybe fine. From purchase to back purchase decorations that doesn’t gonna matter.

Dan: I’m suggesting that you talk to your web guy that you totally get rid of that, the next post last post instead in your copy, at the bottom of your post, if you want them to see your last post, you have to tell them. The only thing you can show is post that is related to the tag or category. From now on, think about your reader and not about the tools that WordPress give you because they did built in to make you rich so take some of this tool presence. I have to use the tools at its best. How do you manage your side bar for each section? Each side we have dynamic side bar.

So the question is if you have a post that you want to exclude from the related post plugin, why did you write it or put it that in the category. If you don’t want to show up why did you write it. Use a special plugin to have different side bar. Yes, there’s custom a side bar in the WordPress. Tell your web guy to set that for you. Leave them with the idea that your sidebar is part of your page. Widget logic? I don’t know about widget logic. I’v never try it yet. Do you know your basic task? Okay, so now we talk about text that doesn’t make any senses. Know your basic task seriously, have a title to your page. There are four pillar of SEO. Titles or tags, contents, social media, time and press release are being relevant. One of those things is traffic or social interaction. Next we talk about how we get it from the outside and now we’re talking on how we get it on the inside. Make something awesome and people will link to it and increase your social media score. We gonna talk about local. So, if you do anything local, anything like speaker. This is it, this is exactly right here. There are two things, messages for your local. These things have to be the same everywhere. Now I’m talking about info search, Google pages, Bing, Facebook page, every single page, Google first cause the info search to figure out where everyone is. So even on a google page, even on the bosom of that, it can have a related page based on the address. Do not waiver ever, exactly. You don’t need to put sacramental everywhere. In fact, watch this puppy training. This guy who used to be number 1 so no matter how good is that SEO is, you gonna take over at that point especially if you’re local.

Puppy training is not totally local term. SEO is the art of proving relevancy. Is that makes sense? Yes or No? The second thing is that you think of website as webpages not as your fool site. And 3, do you see the importance of your tie a shoes? 4, do you understand the side bar play a role in the overall page? Create post, comment, ebook, another post or what you are doing. That’s SEO, Back links, we gonna talk about next week. I need way for more links. Make it the most important page. Your home page is gonna rank for a keyword cluster. Always include the read more and make sure you different topics link to different topics. You really need links coming back to it. Your question is about strategy, do you want to have a link on the category or in the bottom or your post. So your question is a strategy question, what do you want people to do? So yeah, make sure you should tell them what to do, leave a comment, buy an ebook. We are doing something special next month. We’re doing an e-class, a 3-week e-class starting second week of February. So we have relational tutorial in mondays.

Darren: Yeah, it would be on monday.

Dan: We’re going to do a class on SEO that will totally help you in your pages, tip-top shape. February is a short month so it’s a 3 week thing. So we are gong to recall everything and turn a 3 week process. What else? So what we are doing in February, we might be doing webinar, we might be doing a video. So February, we gonna rock, it’s total personalize. What else we gonna talk about SEO from the inside. Next week, we will talk SEO from the outside.Any question about SEO from the inside? Was that clear? Was it helpful? Are you totally confuse now? Any of that?

Darren: 15 percent increase in the number of subscribers week after next, week talk about how to increase your youtube subscriber into 15% in just one hour.

Dan: I’m sorry for I kept you that long. Next week, we do outside, next week, we do e-class. Anything else?

Darren: I’ve learned a lot, take a lot of notes, I said before SEO is not my thing. It gives me ideas on things we need to do. Alright, so see you next week.

People buy belief not benefits: Just ask Martin Luther King Jr.

A friend of mine sent me a link to this video. I gotta tell you this might be the single best video I’ve seen on the human condition. Straight from TEDx these insights go directly to what makes a good leader. I can’t say better than what’s said here:

Accepting Guest Posts

Anyone ever offer to write a guest post for you? I imagine you were either daunted by what to do or very excited that someone else provided content for you. Either way, I bet your first response wasn’t strategic. accepting-guest-posts

After creating a keyword theme map for a client this week, I was asked by the client what she was supposed to do with guest posts. She wanted to know if she was to put them in their on silo on site or if she was to stop accepting them. The answer is neither. Armed with a keyword theme map you won’t have to wonder about accepting guests posts.

Instead you can start offering and accepting positions for “blog post substitutes”.

Keyword Research outside Keyword Research Tools: How To

Dan: Alright, last week we talked about the concept of search engine optimization and the role of keywords. Tonight we’re going to spend time talking about where we can find keywords. I’m not going to spend more time talking about market samuria, word tracker or brainstorm tools or we have done. There are several videos from freeweeklymastermind that we actually show you how to go in the brainstorm tools search for something, look for supply and demand, index that shows you what the most probable keywords, so that part is one of this.I wanna talk about is other strategies to find keywords, to find what people are searching for. Specifically, our goal here is business, how do we figure out, why is these people are willing to trade money for, what it is the value, what they want to watch, what they want to do, what they want to read, what they provide. Ultimately, we definitely want to provide information that our audience need, we doesn’t know their need, not hard to find because most of time, people searching for the big issues but they are times that there are things you would know, the information just really in present. To night we gonna figure out what is people want to know, how do we gonna figure it out, I’m gonna stay away from keyword tools because there are so many other ways. Alright, so what keywords can tell us about things, what is commercial and non commercial keywords. where to figure out where our audience is, when is the best time to put our keywords in front of our audience, when is the best time to sell to your audience, when is the best time to want what they have, and how do we strictly get and give them. So, first of all, people are searching for solutions to problems, so solutions are what we’re trying to figure out.

Keywords can tell us what information that makes them stick around and drives people to community. So, this is very simple and more interesting. How can we find out what it is what people want to know, what things they are searching for, what questions they are asking, what are the words they are using in this question, how they are wording their question. For one thing, so people put together frequently asked questions on their site, they are unbelievably ridiculous. So the question is for you, how these help you with your site, how can we turn these kinds of questions into content, can we answer the question directly on wikianswers with the link back to our site. You can go to yahoo answers with basically the same thing, search in twitter or in forums or in facebook groups but ultimately what is it that people are
looking for. So now, I looked down in list and I see the word cook for raw food, I wanna search cook in raw food. We see the word raw and the word food. So here’s the place that you find what people are looking for, this is a content generation. Another great place what people are buying ultimately, what keywords they actually buy, if you buy book in, you were searching for book on raw food and you pick the book, the thing you go on is the title, title is keyword. Amazon for example, I search for raw food, if you scroll down, you get the product details, you can now and get find the best seller in the healthy and special diet in cook and wine section. Another place, Magazines. Magazines covers are designed to sell. The only you can sell in the cover is word. What are the words on the magazines in your niche, I mean go through all the magazines in your niche and just see what is it that you’re selling. So where we can find out keywords that are actually working, actually producing results? One way to do that is Ezinearticles, go to and then put a space and put your niche keyword. You gonna find every article in ezinearticles that is written in a particular topic. Now the very bottom of each of those articles if you scroll down is the number of times the article has been viewed since ezinearticles is largely organic search base, people are driving traffic there so take a look in the articles if that articles is being found in the internet often, then that’s the keyword you probably wanna go after that something people looking for. Youtube vidoes as well, search youtube for your niche topic and sort by the most viewed videos because people are watching it so what does it mean to you. Let’s go back to wayback machine. The wayback machine took the URL from the best seller in Amazon, I picked two dates, I picked 2008 and 2011. Ant it brought back the page what it look like back in 2008, that’s the page actually look like, and it’s in no.2. August 2011, this is what the page look like, it’s no. 2.

So people also like information that makes them smarter, so like I said before that ezinearticles, number of views. If you search for the word infographics on the google or anywhere and put your niche name after that, you’re going to find lots of infographics about the thing you talked about.I put gardening and I grab 3 from this, you can get all kinds of keywords and contents thoughts. It is good research to do in your niche. So, we obviously talked about how we turn our writing career or blog, how we turn our investment, our time and money. To some degree, we’re looking for keywords that bring people help solve problems because when we are a problem solver, we are helping someone move up to the next level, when we solve their problems, they are happy and thankful. When thinking about problem, that’s the kind of thing people buy so how is it that we take keywords and evolve it to what people buy.

If you have a blog or niche site where you’re product based or coupon based or something that people need all the time like diverse, you can capture that traffic, you can bring back again and again and purchase over and over. Collectibles are obviously people buy. So there are some other ways that we can call over traffic together and let the traffic itself produces keywords. There are questions being asked during your webinar. Those questions can be cultivate into emails and blog post. Those are real questions people have. Those are real way people gazed. So we will look inside your form, look inside other’s people form, what are the question being asked, what are the topic ideas, what are the people talking over and over, why is that people are interested in. So, we’ve got some keywords, we know what people want, we know what kind of question they want, we know what problems they have, we understand the direction they’re going, the books they’re buying. We can take those keywords turn into content, we can turn that content into products and to things that you could sell. So, we don’t really guess what they’re buying, we have to know what they are buying. We just have to provide the same level of value. You can have a physical books. Kunaki is a distribution center and they distribute CD’s and DVD’s. For people, I can put this webinar and put it in DVD. So here’s some information products, list of ways to deliver it, these are service products too. No matter what you do if you have a products, you should create a service to support it or vice versa, create product to support your service. One thing that you can’t tell from keywords is when you can sell something. I think it really takes effort to figure out.

There are ways we figure out besides our own thought when we can sell thing. First of all is Google trends. Google trends is fantastic. Google trends is a great way to figure out the course of the year, your marketing counter, what you’re talking about and when. So then what’s hip? All kind of trends magazines. Keeping up those kinds of things means you’re keeping up with your audience. Make sure you’re following what the audience is. Now, you still have to do of the puzzle is to figure out at what point in the process in the twitter do I need the keywords to show up. You know the keywords, we have to know when we can use them. So, the next step are after this call is to figure out what your audience is already buying. Go to Amazon, Youtube, itunes- look at the podcast, then you know what they’re buying, compare that to the questions they’re asking, figure out what kind of questions are leading, go to your competitor’s site, figure out what they are selling. Make sure when you’re doing all these steps, what you’re doing with your keywords, what you’re doing with your contents, matches where your audience is that.

Squidoo is one of the most viewed sites on the net all the time. The size of your niche doesn’t have to be hundred thousand pages. Nextweek, we gonna start talking about SEO form inside. We gonna talk about factors you do on site to improve your search engine optimization. We talk about SEO from the outside, what things do you do outside to improve your SEO but the stuff in the inside is more important than the outside. We do have how to get your ebook in freeweeklymastermind. It is step by step. See you Guys nextweek.

Viral Marketing Examples: The Piano Guys Case Study

I’m always looking for unbelievable viral marketing examples, and recently came upon what ThePianoGuys are doing with their CelloWars video. You’re going to love it.

There is an enormous differences between viral video examples and viral marketing examples. Tons of videos go viral. Most of them that have done so weren’t because they were planned that way.  And 99% of them are just a flash in the pan with no way to turn that audience into future fans.

In this viral marketing example you’re going to see how ThePianoGuys are using their videos to create fans, generate revenue, grow their list and become pop icons. You don’t see this kind of thing everyday.

They start with YouTube, but these guys aren’t using a Flip Camera in their car on the way to work. Their videos are stunning, done with impeccable editing and amazing musicians. They are so well done, you want to share them. But again – that’s not viral marketing. Great editing, amazing music and stunning video is a hallmark of great movies like Shindler’s List, K2 and Empire of the Sun but that doesn’t make them a viral marketing example. [Read more...]

Assess Your Blog’s Income Streams

What if Google didn’t exist? What would that do to your blog’s income stream? Let’s examine how at risk your income is. You’ve worked really hard to get where you’re at now. Can you imagine how devastating it would be if that magically went away?

Blog Income Sources

What are the most common income sources and how at risk are you of losing that income? Specifically, if you rely on this income as a good portion of your total revenue, how at risk are you? Let’s first identify the sources of income – then let’s cross reference that with how at risk your blog traffic is. Put a high risk traffic source with a high risk income source together and you’re really operating on “hope”.

Google Adsense:

This is a high-risk, low reward income source. Not only does it require a good amount of traffic, but also requires that advertisers continue bidding on your keywords. To top it off Google seems to randomly shut down Google Adsense accounts without a clear path to appeal.

In-text Links:

This is a high-risk, low reward income source. But this is even a bit riskier because most in-text link companies go into the marketplace to advertise their services and find new advertisers. Google AdSense is so big advertisers go to them. So on top of Google AdSense risk you’re also hoping the in-text link company is doing a good job marketing themselves.

Coupon Prints:

A medium risk, low reward income source. On a deal or coupon site, the audience is prepared and looking for these coupons, but they still have to do more than click. They have to print. To add to that, there is no guarantee that the current payout will remain that way. Will a declining coupon print payout affect your business? Somewhat low risk, but not the lowest.

Impression Networks:

Relatively low risk, low reward endeavor. The only real issue with this kind of income is the level of your traffic risk. Most impression networks work with their host sites. Rarely have I heard of people randomly shut down from their networks.

Affiliate Sales:

Medium to high risk, but typically high reward. Income isn’t dependent on large quantities of traffic, but targeted traffic. Since payouts are negotiated on the front, you can choose affiliate sources that meet your needs.

Sponsored Posts:

Medium risk, high reward. The income here isn’t tied to traffic or influence, it’s tied to your ability to procure it. I’ve seen sites with almost no traffic get sponsored post deals regularly. The risk here is you. What if you don’t have time to procure these monies? When you take you out of the picture, the income goes away.

Your Own Products

Low Risk, high reward. Whether it’s an ebook, webinar, .mp3 download, a paid forum, tips, ideas, products or a membership site the money is 100% yours. And with affiliate software you can recruit others and their traffic to drive people to your products and services. Membership site money accrues monthly independent of traffic, search engines, 3rd party sites, or payout reductions.

Your Blog’s Traffic Stream

Let’s start with traffic by dividing it into low, medium and high risk traffic. And then we’ll look at the different kinds of income and assess them as well.

Search Engine Traffic:

Risk Assessment: High This is the kind of traffic you want more than anything. When you offer a product, a service or just plain information you can do no better than to be easy to find by the people looking for that. That’s the easiest way to generate new business, more income, and better quality visitors.

But search engine traffic is pretty high risk. Competitors, press releases, and major events threaten those rankings at all times. Imagine spending years and years building a following and then American Idol comes along and a previously unknown girl who shares your name wins. (Go ahead and search for Carrie Underwood. You know she’s not the only person with that name, but you’d have navigate to page 6 of Google’s results to find another one.)

Not only that but search engines are acquired by other companies, change their goals and change their algorithms all the time. You’re aware of Panda and Penguin of course, but think about other search engines like Instagram and YouTube. Both of those were acquired by bigger companies. And in so doing, their search results changed over time. And a few years ago Google really went local. Search for anything like “front doors” and you’re now going to see local shops, like Frank’s Front Door Painting Service, ahead of niche blog results every time.

The bottom line with search engine traffic is that it is owned by someone else. You are at their mercy. But it is highly targeted and is quality traffic.

Direct Traffic:

This heavenly source of traffic can be divided into two groups: initiative based and impetus based.

Initiative based direct traffic

Risk Assessment: Medium This is when someone opens their web browser and, on their own accord, types your website name in. That’s the best compliment online. While that sounds like a relatively low risk source of traffic, it isn’t. In the best case it is medium level risk. You don’t have the same worries that you would with search engine traffic, but there is one big problem. This kind of traffic relies on hope. If you currently rely on this traffic, you have to “hope” these people come to your site tomorrow. They have to take initiative on their own. Without any outside influence, they have to type your website name into the url bar. No guarantees.

Companies who have spent a ton to become a household name, like Amazon, Expedia and Google, rely heavily on this kind of traffic.

Impetus based direct traffic

Risk Assessment: Medium This is when you are giving your audience reason to type your website name into the browser.  Think of GoDaddy commercials, Infomercials and Woman’s Day Magazine. They’re all in formats where you can’t “click” a link. They constantly ask you to go to their website. Telling you to visit in the commercial is the impetus that person needs to go put that url in the browser. This is a low risk traffic source, but does require promotion, which usually means money. And when the promotion is over, visitors stop coming. Because you’re not likely on your computer when you’re asked to visit the website, this requires the audience to remember. . . go to a computer and then type the website address.

Billboards, magazines and radio create this kind of traffic.

Referral Traffic:

There are a myriad of sources of referral traffic. We can mainly divide this traffic into involuntary, push and list based.

List Based Traffic:

Risk Assessment: Low List building is the act of collecting contact information sorted by affinity group. I’m not talking about that. List based traffic are the visitors that came as a result of list building. They come to your site because you reach out to them by email, RSS, phone, etc . . . It is by far the lowest risk, highest quality traffic there is.  A homeschool blog would attract homeschoolers and thus their list building efforts would result in a homeschool based list. Since lists are your “property”, they reduce the risk of relying on outside sources. The best part about list ownership is that your messages can be delivered at your will and land in an inbox that is largely asynchronous. Unlike impetus based direct traffic, contacting your list via email and RSS requires only a mouse click. .

Push Traffic:

Risk Assessment: Medium Another kind of referral traffic is the kind you push out. Guest blog posts, tweets, link exchanges, Facebook, and articles on 3rd party sites are all forms of push traffic. This is very similar to impetus based direct traffic, but is more convenient since it requires only clicking a link. While the effort is high here, the risk is relatively low.

Push traffic does rely on sites you don’t own and the traffic that visits those sites (like Twitter for example), but it’s low because you control the push. You know that few people visit MySpace everyday so you aren’t likely there promoting. And now that Pinterest is hot, it’s something you’re likely doing more than you were 4 years ago. The risk here is that the audience you are counting on today will not be there when that third party site goes away. For instance, someday Facebook will be a name of the past – if today’s traffic comes from Facebook where does that put you tomorrow?

Involuntary Traffic:

Risk Assessment: High When someone writes about you, links to you or otherwise posts links to your web properties on their own accord you should jump up and down with joy. What a compliment and great thing to happen. But it’s not something you can rely on day after day. When was the last time you saw mention of, OJ Simpson or Webcrawler. These are all things that used to get written about regularly. Perhaps no one on the planet will write about them today. As I always say “Hope is not a marketing plan”.

Now Assess Your Risk

So where do you fall? What is your level of risk? In this table I’ve put together the traffic source and in the income source. You can see in the top right cell that Google AdSense powered by search engine traffic is a “High Risk – High Risk” plan. What kinds of traffic and income should you pursue to reduce your overall risk and exposure to problems?

If you haven’t put together your marketing calendar for this year yet, how are you going to pursue lower risk options to safeguard all your hard work and effort?

How to do Keyword Research the Right Way!

Kicking off our January SEO series with Part One about Keywords.

Dan Morris: Anyway, we are talking this month about SEO. First this week, it’s going to be one class one. It is going to on keywords, keywords, keywords. We’re going to talk about on how basically ways on search engine, how is it work, we’re gonna talk about, you haven’t heard about bathroom story, we have bathroom story for you then we gonna begin because I’m gonna make a little bit different and we’re gonna talk about keyword themselves, where we can get them, what’s bad, what’s good, how do they work, why do we need them, why they are poor, how do they change our lives, all from that stuff. So I’m here with Darren Crawford and we’re about to talk about keywords, keywords, keywords. Anything Dan?

Darren: I do not.

Dan Morris: So if I click right here, that’s exactly what I just said. How does a search engine work? What is SEO? The $1000 Bathroom story, Keywords, Keywords, Keywords.Oh! I’m gonna try to keep this to an hour, that is my goal. Alright, so now class 2 is why we need SEO? Sound exciting! You need this because when you get traffic for regularly and you don’t have the work for the traffic every single day, we talk about the side benefits of doing keyword research, why we gonna do that, we don’t want to talk damn side of SEO, what are the problems, why we spend our time for that. In class 3, we’re going to talk about what kind of things to actually affect your SEO, this class we’re gonna talk about from inside site. In class 4, we talk about what we can do outside. Let’s start in what is search engine. This is seems a damn question because we used search engines. What I think people don’t remember very much is that it is something accompany it is a or most of them are public, they are out there to make money so some people say that SEO is dead but until the day that people stops using search engine, that’s the day I suppose it is die but to this point, almost people are searching, google, yahoo, bing are trying to make money from that then it’s alive and well and its services helps us so keep in mind that search engine is lout to make money and that day that they stop doing their job very well, it is the day that we move to another search engine and I’m using yahoo, I’m using google, there will be a day that we will use something else probably in a company that have a better so remember they are out to make money and they’re trying their best to serve us what we need to be served, the search results based on what we want, when we understand that concept, we can understand how to get top of that results pages.

Now the way straight to the bathroom, I need back, previous, that’s the last one. That’s the next one, stand by for 3 minutes. I think it’s crazy faster, I think it’s because I wanna spend time on keywords that I do on this part but I wanna explain this part. So this is a hallway, talk about a thousand bathroom story. As I said a moment ago, the search engine is a competent and every time you search for something, they are bang to success of their company on those results. Sometimes, I go from google to youtube because I get a better result there or in twitter if it’s a breaking news, something like that. We call these a thousand dollars bathroom story because the question is which one of these doors in the hallway is a bathroom and what time you’ve willing to bet a $1000 to the right one, that’s a question. As you can see right now, it’s a room with doors. The search engine has millions of many websites until you do some other things in SEO, you can really nothing to tell one from another. This is just code. What will help us figure out which one is the door, is the bathroom. What kind of thing will help us to know in making $1000 bet and one who feel comfortable in making this one? So here’s the first one, you see pictures on these doors, title in the door and the graphics. These doors have a titles. But I would be pretty close to this point, you’ll never know that one of this is a new generous cozy, new bathroom, or someone else, so the title is good, it gives us lot of information. Think about your website, your blog post, your page, wherever it is, youtube video if you don’t have a good title that describes it, how search engines supposed to know, how they gonna bet their financial future on that piece of information. So number 1 is title, what is this picture on the door, you have a title on a door and a little bit of information of handicap, this additional information for handicap people can gives you a little bit of description of what’s inside, the description is also very important, if your page doesn’t have a description, then it’s one cut against you. So make sure whatever it is, it has a description. Now, there are form of description like sometimes you have a category on your site, make sure that top area or top part of description is filled out just to help search engine see giving them a little bit more of information. There are common concepts that we have to understand.

The third factor is Sign. There are all kinds of signs, found in the next, there are sign that are pointed to the bathroom. Now, I went to Venice a few years ago, there are sign in the wall that pointed to the bathroom, my body marked and I fall signs and found in a restaurants. Those signs are helpful for us to find the bathroom. If you can see all kinds of signs here and in the web, there are links coming in to your site, we talk about the power of the sign. Now here’s the picture of people, picture of judge, chef, manager, construction foreman, people that you typically trust if you’re asking them where the bathroom of this building, so part of what goes in the value of signs, value of where these informations coming so for example if you post a museum sites decided to link to your astronomy sites, that museum sites have a lot of power to public institutions, lot of link from school and got a power trust. That power trust linked to your site gives your site more power and more trust. So the more links that you can get from trusted resources, the better. Remember, the goal here is to prove to contingency that we are the most relevant and because they have to bet, they have to make that $1000 when they return search results. In the internet, those arrows, those links, those signs, they look like these, they look like anchor text, words that you click, picture that you click, words that “click here” are the anchor text for that link, they anchor that link in place in page. When the link says click here, basically you’re telling google when this sign website, another reliable source indeed, we’re looking for sign so this anchor text is very important, these signs are value. Now, they are lot of signs all over the place then you increase even more that my site is more relevant for this particular work, particular concept, or cost of work, title or description or page or inbound, from the other site, twitter, facebook, all other human experiment like pinterest, voting for that picture says “Yes, I think this is relevant picture that’s one more link to your site. Picture of a bathroom taking to the bathroom website. One last thing that we need for actually gonna take this $1000 is to open the door. When we open the door, we’re going to see, what is inside the room, and at this point of time, you were pretty sure that you can risk your thousand dollars, to see the sign in the door with the title, using description, using sign in the hallway, you see all you need to know to make sure that this is the bathroom. Going back to the internet, this is content when somebody goes to your website and the title of your blogpost is Nicest Bathroom and the only thing there is talking about construction materials then disconnect between the title and the content.Just like if we open this door, and it is fill with maps and broomsticks, we will know that the title of description does not map, we’ve got the description, we’ve got incoming links, links coming from other site, pages in twitter, basically hundred links, internal links. Now we have all these internal contents, we’ve always relate words and phrase that support the idea that this is bathroom. So that’s like the basics now for the next reference of bathroom, we gonna reference the judge and the teacher. So my goal today is to give to you this basic overview so that we can go on keywords themselves. No you understand this concept, you gonna take this framework which hopefully it is very easy to understand and then we gonna go to another section. So let’s go over to, we need this page right here, this is the page that we need. Do you have question so far?

People: We don’t have question.

Dan Morris: No question? Crazy! All these people, no question! So, I understand. So what I did here is I search for the term Green Bean Casserole. Now we’re talking about keywords here, so here’s the keyword that I chose ” Green Bean Casserole” .An I gonna use this particular example to help explain the bathroom story and value of keywords, value basically of whole concept of SEO. Here are 4, 5, 6 results, it doesn’t matter, you can pick any of these. There’s a lot of searches for this particular term every day so they fight for no. 1 position so let’s figure out how they are no. 1, how they can be absolute no. 1 result for Green Bean Casserole. Now let me ask you this, Do you see the page, is there any doubt in your mind that search engine made a mistake that they place in a wrong place or they made a wrong bet in a particular site? Okay so, is there any doubt in your mind that this is a wrong results? That’s my question. So let’s take a look, we have Green Bean Casserole in the title, so correct. Now we even have breadcrumbs that shows the hierarchy of the site, we also have an ingredients of Green Bean Casserole, we also have description including the keyword right there and mushrooms too, this is not an ingredient not only that, there are incoming links in this page. Then we have all kinds of social proofs, humans with a click with a thumbs up sign.So did they made a mistake? Is there anything on here? Anything.

People: I’m not sure. I think the image itself.

Dan Morris: So here’s number 2, “Green Bean Casserole”, breadcrumbs, link every top on the page, link to another, ingredients, all the supporting keywords right there. Can you tell that this is extremely relevant for the term Green Bean Casserole, can you see that there are links coming to this page? Almost page. You can see right there. This page is linking to four other internal recipes make me think that there are list of 4 other pages or this linking back to this.So let’s see number 3, another video over here, we’ve got links, for green bean casserole, 1.9 or 19 hundred people recommended it that this is a good site. Comment down here. See how this page even though it’s not keyword stuff, it’s flooded with relevancy for the term Green Bean Casserole. A ask you this, if you’re trying to rank for a particular term, if you go to that page right now, can you say the same thing, can you say that this page Green Bean Casserole in page sis or can you look at it that maybe in fact that my side bar, my text, my image, maybe there are reason why google and yahoo are not bound this a thousand dollar and can you fix these things? So let’s look at some tools, figure out how we going to learn, so first one we look at is Google Adwords Keyword Tool. If you ever use this tool for the purpose of SEO, trying to prove to google that you’re the most relevant.

Dan Morris: Then I would like to date this is the very last day that you will ever do that because this is incorrect because no way to use this tool for that purpose. There are reason of this tool but it is not that. So let’s look at this particular tool, which allows people how to use. Ironically, so to house in the Google Adwords  part of their business. Google Adwords is designed, its systems where companies can buy advertisers on google search results and throughout their worldwide network called adsense. This is one tool they give advertisers to bring people back to their site. Now when you bid on something, you go to the top so you’re not competing with other websites, the only competition is competing with other advertisers, how many other advertisers are competing with this term. There is a column Competition, this index is low, middle, high is 100% related whether it is or not the word itself or the keyword itself is commercial or not. So this particular tool is telling you why there or not people bidding on a term, giving you sense of global search but this is not an exact match. So that’s the value of this tool, if you’re an advertisers, it’s very useful because you know whether or not you gonna pay more money per click and they will help you whether or not that’s the product of the people in mind. See Another question there?Maybe! Someone did that the other day, that’s fantastic. The reason for their accurate because Google really really really trying hard to help people advertise, they help you advertise in cheaply human as possible because everyone knows that bidding is difficult and most companies will bid 25 dollars, they are all trying very hard to give you tools that is necessary and very easy so you spent 8 cents and make 25 dollars and bid for the rest. No I used Brainstorm tools and their word tracker which is part of Market Samurai. But anyway, there are different kinds of keyword tool. This kind of tool gives you information to solve your bathroom problem to prove that you’re relevant. Not only that, they help you understand that you don’t wanna go after particular term. I came up with particular list, all kinds of strawberry plants in page 3. So, this is the exact match so there are 8693 people searching for the term strawberry plants each month is 8693. That’s not exact match because strawberry plans is somehow used in a phrase or with another word and they have medium competition. We also find out that there 1100 other websites, they are optimized. Now that means you have to bet 1100 to get top and be more relevant. That search engine would tell that there are more strawberry plants that is relevant, that’s have a better description, better title, better contents piece, more quality links coming in and more quality links coming to other site. So how soon could I get to 8693 a month to compete in day 1. So the question is, how does site like word tracker and market samurai get the SEO information? These guys put data in their engine and spread data. Now the search engine has ways to access that information and reverse engineer their page. You could do that. Go to the number 1 google result. That is possible, extremely possible but how many searches you would do to come up with this particular list. Wow, you’re working to bet their sites. So you can go search. Now this list exists because the algorithm came out. If you decided not to use the keyword tool, you would have brainstorm and do something and list of your own and reverse engineering. We have tools like SEO Quick and Market Samurai also.

People: And we alo think tools that using income tax in back to your site, strawberry plants for sale, looking back to their site here. I think people think it’s all about of links.

Dan Morris: We designed sites with internal structures. We build keyword tower, each pyramid. Supporting keywords at the bottom, support keywords above them.Time and time again, we overcome sites with a lot of incoming links. It is helping the search engines make thousand dollars. So the question is about anchor text? So the anchor text is always important. That’s one more piece of evident. You don’t have to force anchor text. Prove relevance by showing human activities. You should never ever start with google keywords. Advertisers don’t go to this page ever.So what’s the difference between anchor text and keyword links?Nothing really. So keyword is anything or everything that people search for. So here’s the question, the anchor text has to be the links. Anchor text really describes the keyword that anchors the links. The whole thing is underlined to go another page just like this page. Picture are links too, it’s telling search engine that if you click here, you go to other page. Once you’ve made a word a link, that’s the anchor text.So Yes, it has to be a link, it’s part of definition, it’s a blue, have to be blue.

People: If you loook at the social media, this is my opinion, they will probably lead you to other resources. The reality is go to pages and tell you if it’s relevant and points internally.

Dan Morris: So the reason that they optimize that term is because their not tempting to optimize the search engine but the page to increase their page views, trying to see that ad that contribute. So, they’re trying to increase their search engine for that particular term. Local keywords are only different in a fact that they add
origin to the term so you are welcome to use this keyword tool to search for shall we say strawberry plants, the search result is so small because very few people in the area that search for that particular term. So go high level and see people search for. One other benefit that can you do reverse engineer. You can put an index and you can find out and get the entire line of that. This is the true value right here to show which ones have. Using Google adwords help you figure out what keywords might help you or adsense. So the answer is Yes, to do adwords tool might help you. In this particular tool, you can export them all to adsense, that tell you the average, low and high for all your keywords in 6 columns and 1 table. If the keyword that something you can buy, then you’re going to get higher dollar return. You can also go to, you can search for keywords there, you can find Los Angeles personal injury, those clicks pay $30 per click, you can make a lot of money every single day. So hope that was helpful for keywords, what they are, how to find them, how to prove to search engine that is relevant, why it is important to prove that it is relevant.
